Meet our founder

Dorothy Briggs is the founder and driving force behind Womanition. What started as a passion project to showcase Alberta's businesswomen has grown into an international, award-winning magazine and thriving community that spans the province.

As an entrepreneur herself, Dorothy understood the challenges women face in business and saw the power of connection and support. In 2006, she launched Womanition Magazine to give Alberta businesswomen a platform to share their stories and celebrate their achievements.

But Dorothy didn't stop there. Recognizing that women needed more than just a magazine, she expanded Womanition into a complete ecosystem of support. Today, the community includes monthly networking events, the signature BizBrigade Leadership Conference, a comprehensive Mentorship program, and the innovative SuPEARLative Awards that celebrate peer recognition.

Dorothy's vision has always been simple: create opportunities for women in business to connect, learn from each other, and thrive together. Through her leadership, thousands of Alberta businesswomen have found their community, grown their businesses, and lifted each other up along the way.

Our Community Speaks

Discover what Womanition means to our community members and how we're making a difference in the lives of Alberta businesswomen.

  • Womanition is a place of connection, support and opportunity. I didn't know anyone in Edmonton when I became an entrepreneur; that all changed when I attended my first Womanition meeting. My business definitely thrived from being part of this amazing group. I was nominated for a SuPEARLative award, and I am in the magazine which has brought me business and partnerships. It's serious, fun, educational and priceless.

  • I have been a member of Womanition since 2008. Womanition was an integral part of the success of my business Caprice Consignment. By attending the networking luncheons and day-long Biz Brigades I developed relationships with many of the other Womanition members. The Womanition community is very special and unlike other networking communities I’ve been a part of. There’s a real sense of belonging and support. Being a member of this organization is like having an extra tool belt at your disposal to use as needed.

  • Womanition has not only played a huge role in my business success, through this community I have also made some of the best friends in my life. I have been a part of this community since I started my business in 2018 and have been given so many incredible opportunities within and because of this community.

    Jessica Derksen, Habitual Professional Development

  • I have been participating with the Womanition group since September 2017. One of the performance metrics that I track is who my referral partners are and where they come from. Last year Womanition was in my monthly Top Three eight out of twelve months. I am grateful for all the friends and business contacts that I have made.
